Seminar “Theory and Practice of Pranayama”
Épône (Yvelines), 13 July 2026
This seminar, organised by Antar Yoga will explore both the theory and practice of pranayama. Participants will be introduced to the traditional understanding of the purpose of pranayama according to the Yoga Sutras, sources of the Natha Tradition, and the teachings of the Tamil Siddhars (Vasi Yoga, the yoga of breath).
The seminar will be led by Guru Yogi Matsyendranath Maharaj, a teacher in the Natha tradition and the first foreigner to introduce Natha Yoga to the West. With nearly 30 years of experience in Yoga and Tantra, he is the author of numerous works on the spiritual traditions of India, including translations of ancient yogic texts. He continues to deepen his practice in India and regularly leads seminars, workshops, and satsangs around the world.

The seminar will address the following topics:
• How to begin pranayama practice.
• How to use the matra system to measure the duration of the different phases of the breath.
• The principles of measuring inhalation, exhalation, and breath retention.
• The use of the pranava “OM”, purifying bija mantras, and other methods.
The main types of pranayama will also be examined in detail:
• Purifying practices: anuloma-viloma, nadi-shuddhi.
• Practices that regulate the doshas and awaken Kundalini: ujjayi, suryabheda, bhastrika, and others.
