Guru Yogi Matsyendranath

Guru Yogi Matsyendranath Maharaj

Guru Yogi Matsyendranath Maharaj is a teacher in the Natha tradition and the first foreigner to introduce Natha Yoga to the West. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the practice of Yoga and Tantra. Guruji is also the author of many distinctive works on the spiritual traditions of India, as well as translations of ancient yogic texts into English and other languages.

Having received full initiation into the Natha Sampradaya, Yogi Matsyendranath Maharaj received the authority to serve as a Guru. In addition to his training within the Natha tradition, he studied in India and Nepal with teachers from other spiritual lineages, including the tantric traditions of Śrī Vidyā and Kubjikā. He continues to spend significant time in India, deepening his personal spiritual practice.

In recent years, Yogi Matsyendranath Maharaj has been based in Australia, where he was actively involved in interfaith dialogue as a member of the Warburton Interfaith Ashram.

He regularly leads seminars, workshops, and satsangs around the world, including in France, Germany, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, and India, where he has a wide circle of students and followers.

Satsangs and Seminars

More than ten years ago, Tara Michaël, a renowned Sanskrit scholar and translator of classical yoga texts, invited Guru Yogi Matsyendranath to France to lead a series of seminars in different cities across the country. Until then, Natha Yoga had never been presented in France in this way. During these satsangs, Guruji shared his profound knowledge of authentic traditional yoga, an ancient teaching transmitted from teacher to disciple for thousands of years. Since then, he has continued to return to France regularly to lead seminars and satsangs.

Gorakshanath

Yoga practice in the Natha tradition is highly diverse and depends to a great extent on the Guru’s teaching. In general, it includes mantra yoga, hatha yoga, laya yoga, and raja yoga. It may also be described in terms of ashtanga yoga (yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi) and shadanga yoga (from asana to samadhi, excluding yama and niyama). These should not be understood as sequential stages of yoga or as separate paths of development. Rather, taken together, they form a complete yoga sadhana.
